Principal Instructor

As an instructor of the Design Fundamentals course I have been provided with the opportunity to work with university students at all levels of their education from a variety of departments. The position provides me with the opportunity to teach design principles and techniques to students who are experiencing design for the first time. I am provided with the challenge of presenting projects clearly and effectively and learning to understand each student and how they learn. Grading and heading discussions are also key elements to a well rounded design experience.

In this position my tasks include the take down and removal of previous shows in the gallery and the installation of the next show. This position provides me with a more active role in the design community on campus and exposing me to the great work our University produces. Working with the artists and designers on their shows and with the other GRA’s provides me with the chance to work as part of a team.

During my time with the Art Gallery of Alberta I was given the opportunity to work with a great group of people working with a variety of artworks in all mediums, scale and complexity. Team work skills were integral to the success of installations as well as communication skills.  An exciting and very enlightening experience has made my respect and admiration of the arts much deeper and better informed.

Future Leaders Delegation | University of Alberta-China Institute | December 2011

The University of Alberta and the Taiwan government selected 13 Graduate Students from The Faculty of Arts, Faculty of Law and The School of Business to take part in a 10-day trip to Taiwan to experience the county and all that it has to offer. Scheduled events included visits to political parties, historical and cultural sites, universities and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs where each student conducted a short presentation. The experience was an interesting and informative trip that I am honored to have been a part of.
